2019 April Single Data Return – Update and reminder

Notification sent to TEOs and SMS vendors.

We know most of you have started testing your April Single Data Returns (SDRs). This notification provides you with an update on a change to the 2019 SDR manual along with some handy tips on validating the new iwi codes.

Change from 2019 SDR manual

The 2019 SDR manual [PDF, 2.02MB] notes the validations for ‘Fees Free eligible indicator field’ and ‘Total fee for domestic student field’ will produce an error for the April 2019 SDR.

Unfortunately the change from a warning to an error for these fields will not be made until the August 2019 SDR. The validation will remain as a warning for the April 2019 submission. However, please fix as many as possible now before they become errors in the August 2019 SDR.

We are working on updating the SDR manual so that it’s clear it is a warning and not an error for the April 2019 SDR submission.

We apologise for the confusion caused, and the delay in getting this across the line.

Tips for using the new iwi codes

We have updated the iwi codes to the 2019 version provided in Appendix 4 of the SDR manual (SDR Appendices [DOCX, 339KB] and SDR Appendices [XLS, 422KB])

You will need to use the new codes for all enrolments, including learners who are cross-year enrolments and were submitted in the December 2018 SDR round.

If you get an error message, please:

  • Check to make sure you’ve uploaded the 2019 version to your SMS, and that these codes are being applied for all enrolments; and
  • Double check the file structure is correct

If the error persists please contact us on 0800 601 301 or sectorhelpdesk@tec.govt.nz
