Reminder: ECE census week 19 – 25 June 2017

Today is the first day of the early childhood education (ECE) census week which runs from 19 - 25 June 2017.

The ECE census collects information on children’s enrolment and attendance as well as on staff, teaching languages and wait times at each service. This information contributes to a comprehensive information base on ECE in New Zealand and is used by the Ministry to monitor and forecast ECE expenditure and design new policies.

All early learning services connected to the Early Learning Information (ELI) system should submit an electronic ECE Return through ELI Web or their student management system (SMS) by 11 July 2017.

Before you submit your ECE Return:

  • Early learning services submitting an ECE Return via their SMS must ensure the latest version of the software is being used before ECE Return submission.  If you are unsure that you are using the latest version of your SMS, please contact your SMS provider.
  • Ensure that you have completed your ECE Return correctly.  All children must be allocated an NSN and all enrolment, attendance and staff details must be up to date. In particular, services need to ensure their staff qualification and certification information is up to date for each staff member. More information about completing the ECE Return can be found on the ECE Return Questions & Answers page.

Early learning services not connected to ELI will need to return  an RS61 by post. For any questions about this information, please call 0800 ECE ECE (0800 323 323) or email ELI.queries@education.govt.nz.
