Excellent response for 2017 ECE census

We would like to thank all early learning services who returned their ECE Return via the Early Learning Information (ELI) system or submitted their RS61 for the week of 19–25 June 2017. If you have not yet submitted your ECE Return or RS61, please ensure that you submit it immediately.

The early childhood education (ECE) census collects information on children’s enrolment and attendance as well as on staff, teaching languages and wait times at each early learning service. This information contributes to a comprehensive information base on ECE in New Zealand and is used by the Ministry to monitor and forecast ECE expenditure and design new policies.

ELI data still needed for the 2017 ECE census Even if you have submitted your ECE Return, there may be some ELI data for your early learning service that still needs updating. Please ensure that all children:

  1. That are enrolled during the census week have their attendance (or absence) recorded
  2. Who were enrolled to attend during the census week have been allocated a national student number (NSN).

The Ministry will continue to contact early learning services to address any data quality issues.

Remember that it is a requirement of the ELI Principles of Use to submit a complete and accurate electronic ECE Return for early learning services connected to ELI.

Need help? If you have any questions about the ECE Return, allocating NSNs, or updating attendance data, please email us at ELI.dataquality@education.govt.nz.
