Education Sector Logon Conditions of Use Information

Education Sector Logon users are responsible for reviewing these conditions of use, and on accessing any Education Sector online service or application, you are deemed to have agreed to these conditions. These conditions of user are considered to be fair and reasonable. Should any of the conditions of use not be considered 'fair and reasonable', the condition will be reviewed and possibly amended to reflect the original intention.


You are responsible for ensuring that you use your access to Education Sector Logon online services or applications in a manner which does not contravene the security policies of the Education Sector Logon or the accessed service or application.

Further, you agree that you will:

•  Take all reasonable steps to prevent someone misusing, or gaining unauthorised access to, the connected application using your User ID
•    Ensure your computer system has appropriate anti-virus software installed.


Education Sector Logon complies with the Privacy Act 1993 and is committed to respecting the personal privacy of individuals who use Education Sector Logon online services.

You agree:

•   We can collect information about the ways in which you use Education Sector Logon. We will ask you for this information or we will obtain it from our records.
•    All information you give is correct and complete.
•   We may monitor / record calls made between you and the Education Service Desk to maintain and improve the quality of Education Sector Logon and the service we offer.

You may ask to see information that the Education service Desk have about you and you may ask us to correct any errors. The Education Service Desk will hold the information securely and will not disclose it to any person or organisation without your authority, unless required or authorised to do so by law.

Your Responsibilities

You have an important role to play in the secure use of educational online services. You are responsible for your own behaviour when accessing online services.

The following outlines rules and recommendations for:

•   General Use
•   Passwords
•   Challenge response guidelines
•   Minors.

General Use

You will never be asked for your Education Sector Logon user account password or challenge response answers by a legitimate Education Service Desk Administrator.


•   send frivolous, obscene or defamatory messages.
•   look at, change, delete or tamper with files or information in Education Sector Applications that you are not authorised to access.
•   write your Education Sector Logon User ID & Password on paper, sticky notes, desk pads, calendars, or in a notebook.
•  share your Education Sector Logon User ID or Password or Challenge Responses with any another person - including for example your Organisation Delegated Authoriser, Manager or Education Service Desk Administrator.


Education Sector Logon passwords must meet these minimum requirements;

Password must be at least seven (7) characters long

Password must include three (3) of the following categories;

•   Lowercase characters (a-z)
•   Uppercase characters (A-Z)
•   Digits (0-9)
•   Punctuation & Special characters (! @ # $ % ^ & * ( ) _ - , . < > ? / | \ } ] { [ = ` ~ ; : " ')

Important Notes for Passwords:

•   Education Sector Logon passwords are valid for 365 days.

•   Education Sector Logon passwords must not include personal details from your Education Sector Logon account, e.g. User ID, Given Name and/or Family Name.

•  Education Sector Logon passwords cannot be an exact match to your previous 12 Education Sector Logon passwords.

Challenge Response Guidelines

The very first time you logon to an Education Sector Logon online application you are required to set up your own challenge response questions and answers. Challenge responses allow you use the Forgotten Password function (should you forget your password), without having to contact the Education Service Desk to get your account reset.


If you are under 18 you are encouraged to seek advice before accepting these conditions of use, especially if you do not understand any part of them.

Breach of Conditions of Use

Any breach of the Education Sector Logon conditions of use will be dealt with in a manner appropriate to the seriousness of the breach.
Access to online services or applications will normally be revoked (disabled) during this investigative period and each incident will be considered on a case-by-case basis.


The Education Sector Logon, while making reasonable efforts to ensure the accuracy and completeness of information and material, assumes no responsibility for the accuracy, reliability or completeness of that information or material.

In addition, the Education Sector Logon is entitled at any time, without prior notice, to change these conditions of use for accessing online services.
